In Effigy is a speculative game that plays with the mixing of hauntological concepts with Chinese divination tools and cultural practices during the Hungry Ghost Festival. It is rooted in a curiosity of the diverse cultural uses of the effigy, from symbolic punishment in medieval European courts and contemporary aesthetics of protest, to rituals marking the changing of seasons and material transcendence/transference within Taoist tradition through the craft of zhǐzā.
